How losing customers taught me to keep them

Before Retain, I was a founder losing customers in the dark. This is the story.

Hi, 👋🏼 Gabriel here. Before Retain, I built Save Now, a SaaS for aesthetic and beauty clinics management.

Things were going well, at least on the surface. Customers signing up every week, but some clinics would explore the product for some days, then go quiet.

No complaints. I never understood why.

And that was killing my growth. Acquiring customers wasn't enough if I couldn't understand why existing ones were leaving.

So I went deep into the problem.

I started studying churn, retention, and customer behavior while analyzing usage patterns for signals that appeared before churn: incomplete onboarding, low activity, key features never used, incomplete payments.

As I started connecting those signals, things became clearer. I could finally identify struggling customers early enough to reach out before they quietly disappeared.

And at the same time, those same signals started exposing the holes in my product itself.

I wasn't just reducing churn anymore. I was finally understanding what needed to improve.

And when I started talking to other founders, I realized the problem wasn't unique to me. So many SaaS companies were flying blind, losing customers without understanding why.

Literally setting money on fire. Incredible business strategy, honestly.

That's how Retain was born.
