What is Retain (retain.so)?

Retain (retain.so) is an AI-first churn prevention platform for B2B SaaS with lean teams. What it does, who it is for, and why it is not Paddle Retain.

Retain (retain.so) is an AI-first churn prevention and customer analytics platform for B2B SaaS. It reads your product usage and payment signals, scores the health of every customer account in real time, and warns you before someone cancels, with the reason why and a suggested next move.

Customers don't churn out of nowhere. They go quiet, stop logging in, leave their seats unused. Retain just happens to be listening.

Who Retain is for

Retain is built for subscription B2B SaaS with lean teams, past product-market fit, where one customer is worth hundreds of dollars a month. Teams with enough customers that nobody can hold the list in their head anymore, where someone is already doing customer success or account management but nobody's whole job is watching for churn. The people who answer their own support tickets and take every cancellation a little personally.

Before product-market fit, churn is the product talking to you and no dashboard fixes that. After it, churn is revenue walking out while you're busy shipping. Retain is for the second one.

You don't need a data team or a warehouse to use it. If you can call our API when something happens in your product, you have enough.

What Retain does

  • Tracks feature usage through our SDK, our API, or a tool you already use like PostHog.
  • Pulls subscription and payment events straight from Stripe or Polar.
  • Scores the health of every customer account in real time.
  • Alerts you when an account starts to look risky, and tells you why.
  • Writes a message to win the customer back, based on how they actually use the product.
  • Tracks the revenue you save once you actually do something about it.

The point is to catch it early. Instead of reacting at the cancel screen, you get a warning while there's still time to send an email, get on a call, or fix whatever is quietly annoying them.

Retain (retain.so) is not Paddle Retain

Yes, we share a name with a feature inside Paddle (formerly ProfitWell Retain), a tab buried three menus deep in a billing dashboard. The difference? For them, retain is a feature. For us, it's the whole mission.

In practice, Paddle Retain is a failed-payment recovery tool, also called dunning: when a card expires or a charge bounces (involuntary churn), it tries to recover the payment. Genuinely useful, but it only steps in after the money is already gone.

Retain (retain.so) spots those failed payments too. We sync your billing events and flag the bounced charges and expiring cards before they quietly cost you a customer.

Then we keep going, because failed payments are the easy part. The real heartbreak is voluntary churn: the customer whose card works perfectly fine and who just, slowly, stops caring. Without ever telling you.

That's our whole thing. Retain watches how people actually use your product and taps you on the shoulder while there's still time to do something, instead of showing up after the customer has already left.

How it works

  1. Send events. One call to our API when a customer does something that matters, drop in the SDK, or forward what you already send to PostHog.
  2. Connect billing. Link Stripe or Polar so Retain sees subscription and payment events.
  3. Watch the scores. Each account gets a live health score, and you get alerted when one starts slipping.

Under the hood that splits into four things: churn prediction from usage and payment signals, retention analytics by cohort, lifecycle segments so each account gets the right outreach, and an AI agent over MCP if you would rather ask than click.

Most teams are up and running in about 10 minutes. Seriously, you've spent longer choosing what to watch tonight.

See who's about to churn before they hit cancel

Retain breaks your churn down by cohort, finds the leak, and tells you who to reach out to while there's still time.
