Retain vs Custify
Retain vs Custify, from the person who builds one of them. Custify is an approachable CS platform for teams with CSMs. Retain predicts churn for small teams that can no longer keep a close eye on every account.
Features below come from both products' public pages, as of September 2026. Custify does not publish pricing, so the number here is a third-party estimate, flagged as one.
Custify is the closest thing to Retain in this whole category, which makes this the hardest comparison here. Put the two on a feature grid and they blur. Use them for a week and they feel nothing alike.
TL;DR
- Pick Custify if you have (or are hiring) a CS team that needs a 360 customer view, health scores, playbooks, and surveys in one workspace.
- Pick Retain if you're past product-market fit, one customer is worth hundreds of dollars a month, and someone already handles accounts but nobody's whole job is watching for churn. Warning before the cancel, no CS function to stand up.
- Custify is the friendly end of CS platforms. It's still a CSM tool. Retain is for teams that can no longer keep a close eye on every account, not for a CSM org.
What each one actually is
Custify is a customer success platform. It's a workspace where a CS team watches accounts through a Customer 360, KPI-based health scores, playbooks, task routing, and surveys. It's easier to get into than Gainsight or Totango, but it's still built around people whose job is managing customers.
Retain is an AI-first churn prediction tool. It reads product usage and payment signals, scores each account in real time, and alerts you before a customer cancels, with the reason why.
Custify is where a CS team works all day. Retain is a thing that goes off when an account starts slipping.

Custify is a good product and I'm not going to pretend otherwise
It gives a CS team a Customer 360, KPI-based health scores with churn risk detection, playbooks and automation that fire on business rules, task management with alerts, dashboards, calculated metrics, and CSAT/NPS surveys. There's also CustifyAI for churn analysis, playbook generation, and customer summaries.
It lists 200+ integrations through Zapier plus direct connections to HubSpot, Salesforce, Zendesk, and Intercom, so the CS workspace sits on top of tools you already run.
The part bigger suites usually get wrong is onboarding, and Custify gets it right. It offers concierge onboarding and frames getting started as roughly a 4-week process, which is quick for this category. If you're setting up customer success for the first time, that hand-holding is most of what you're buying.
What Retain does instead
Retain isn't trying to be a CS platform, even a friendly one. It's the warning that shows up before a customer leaves, for teams where nobody watches accounts full time.
It plugs into two things: however you track feature usage, and however you bill. Usage comes from our SDK, one API call, or events you already send to PostHog. Billing comes from Stripe or Polar.
After that, every account carries a live health score. When one climbs into risky territory, you get an alert that says what changed and what to do about it.
Retain also drafts a win-back message based on how that specific customer used the product, and keeps count of the revenue you save. No 360 workspace to configure, no playbook builder, no seat to fill.
Setup is around 10 minutes and no data team is involved. That's the point: churn prediction a small team can turn on without standing up a CS org, at a price that matches.
Here's the tradeoff, stated plainly. Retain won't give you a Customer 360, run surveys, route tasks across a CS team, or drive an expansion motion. The day you need those, you've outgrown it, and that's usually the day Custify starts making sense.
One question decides this
Is there someone on your team whose job is keeping customers?
If yes, Custify will earn its seats. You have people managing named accounts, and they need a shared 360 view, health scores they can configure, playbooks, surveys, and an expansion engine in one place. "My CS team needs a home that won't take six months to deploy" is exactly the problem Custify solves.
If that person is just you, Retain is the leaner option. You need to know which accounts are cooling off while there's still time to email them, and you'd rather not spend four weeks setting that up.
